Mathys Angely (17) had announced his departure from FC Girondins de Bordeaux after the club renounced their professional status.
The young defender had been one of the hopes for the future of the club, but financial troubles had led to a situation where all players were released from their contracts as the team were relegated down from Ligue 2 to the fourth flight of French football. This situation has already seen Bordeaux’s manager Albert Riera leave the club to join Slovenia’s RK Celje.
Angely had been a target for a host of clubs across Europe namely Liverpool FC and RC Lens, but according to a report by Le Parisien the young defender will instead opt to join VfL Wolfsburg where he has travelled this morning to complete his medical. The free transfer from Bordeaux is close to being complete with Wolfsburg expected to announce their new signing in the next few hours.
