Trent Alexander-Arnold is easily one of the most sought-after players in the transfer market right now, with all eyes on his contract situation at Liverpool.

The defender’s contract at Anfield expires at the end of the season, which has put a host of top clubs across Europe on red alert.

Real Madrid have notably emerged as a potential destination for the Englishman, as he looks to take a crucial call on his future this season.

No breakthrough for Liverpool

Florian Plettenberg has recently offered an update on the future of Alexander-Arnold, claiming that Liverpool are yet to find a breakthrough.

As things stand, there is still no agreement between Alexander-Arnold and Liverpool over a contract extension.

Negotiations have been ongoing, but no breakthrough has been reached, fueling speculation that the 26-year-old could be on his way out of the club he has represented since childhood.

Plettenberg even suggests that the chances of Alexander-Arnold joining Real Madrid on a free transfer this summer are currently higher than him extending his stay at Liverpool.

With Dani Carvajal entering the latter stages of his career, Los Blancos are on the lookout for a long-term successor, and the England international perfectly fits the bill. This comes despite the fact that the club are reportedly eyeing a ‘quiet’ transfer window.

The Englishman offers dynamism and experience on the table. But most importantly, he will be available as a free agent – making him an ideal target for the club.

However, Liverpool are not willing to easily back down. The club remain keen on tying down the Englishman to a new deal.

However, with no agreement in sight, the possibility of Alexander-Arnold donning the famous white jersey of Real Madrid is becoming more realistic by the day.
