Liverpool Striker Targeted By Newcastle United Manager: Should The Reds Let Him Go? | OneFootball

In a recent report by The Northern Echo, Newcastle United are interested in a loan move for Liverpool forward Divock Origi in the coming transfer window. Newly-appointed Magpies boss Eddie Howe has urged the Newcastle United hierarchy to bring in ‘tried-and-tested Premier League quality players as the new owners ramp up their preparations for the upcoming January transfer window. Newcastle are currently sitting at the rock bottom of the Premier League with no wins under their belt and hence reinforcements in the January transfer window looks very much likely with the new owners ready to spend.

Divock Origi Not A Starter At Liverpool

Divock Origi has been at Liverpool since 2014 and was a key member of the squad when Jurgen Klopp arrived in 2015. Origi has found it difficult to nail a starting berth in Klopp’s team since the arrival of Brazilian Roberto Firmino. Although luck was not in his favour when it came to injuries, but it is clear that only a few could have ever replaced the trio of Roberto Firmino, Mohammad Salah and Sadio Mane at Liverpool after their success in the last few years. Divock Origi has had a good spell in the past and has scored 20 times in the Premier League which Eddie Howe will be quite impressed at.

The 26-year-old has made just seven appearances so far this season, playing a total of 273 minutes of footballing action, majorly featuring in EFL Cup games, but also impressing by chipping in with three goals and two assists. Origi has also had terrific performances for the Reds in the Champions League but most of them have come from the bench as he has not been consistent enough when given regular starts at Liverpool. With Origi’s contract ending next summer, the Reds would like to cash in rather than watch him leave as a free agent and Newcastle may approach Liverpool with loan enquiries in January.

Should Liverpool Let Origi Go?

With the addition of Diogo Jota last summer and the impact he has had on the club till now, the front four of Salah, Mane, Firmino and Jota looks irreplaceable at the moment. With the manager having sky-high expectations of his players, it will be quite difficult for Origi to get enough minutes with the stakes so high. Hence cashing in on the striker for a more consistent and technically skilled attacker looks ideal for the Reds.
