Liverpool striker Mohamed Salah started on the bench for Egypt's World Cup qualifying win against Gabon this morning.

The Egyptian FA agreed to bench Salah for their final World Cup qualifier against Gabon. The Pharaohs' place at Qatar 2022 had already been confirmed following the 2-2 draw with Angola last Friday, meaning there was little left to play for other than pride.

Egypt cruised to qualification as winners of Group F after proving too strong for Gabon, Libya and Angola on the road to next year's tournament.

Salah eventually was put on in the second-half with Gabon with the score locked at 1-1, with Egypt eventually winning 2-1 via an own goal.

It means Salah is expected to be fresh for this weekend's visit of Arsenal, where there will be extra responsibility resting on his shoulders.

Roberto Firmino is still sidelined with a hamstring injury but Sadio Mane is expected to be fit for the clash.
