In a recent tweet, former Norway international and ESPN FC pundit Jan Aage Fjortoft has stated that Liverpool are still keen on recruiting Borussia Dortmund playmaker Jadon Sancho. However, according to Fjortoft, the Reds could face competition in the form of Manchester United in pursuit of the England international and might have to sell either Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah to fund a move for the player.

Sancho’s Encouraging Numbers In German Football This Season

Sancho is having another fruitful season in German football as he has continued to flourish as a key member of Dortmund’s attack. The 21-year-old has registered 14 goals and 18 assists in 35 matches for the German club this term across all fronts.

The ex-Manchester City youngster has proven his worth as a top performer at Signal Iduna Park by averaging 0.7 tackles, 0.7 interceptions, 2.0 shots, 2.7 key passes and 2.9 dribbles per 90 minutes in the Bundesliga this season. The London-born attacker has even been accurate when interchanging possession with his teammates in the final third after making 82.2% of his attempted passes in the top tier of German football (stats via whoscored).

The 18-time England international has only won the German Super Cup once during his time at Dortmund, so he could be tempted if given the opportunity to join Jurgen Klopp’s revolution at Anfield where he might have a better chance of competing for major trophies in the coming seasons.

Will Sancho Be A Good Option For The Reds?

Sancho is one of the quickest players in European football and has got the ability to breeze past his marker by turning on the afterburners out on the wide areas. He can get to the byline with ease and whip in some dangerous crosses into the danger area. The England international has established himself as someone who can score or create goals regularly at the top level.

Hence, Sancho will be a brilliant option for the Reds as he could grow into a world-beater under the watchful eyes of Jurgen Klopp. At 21, the Dortmund star could develop into a generational talent, so he will be a welcome addition to Liverpool’s attack that has struggled to be consistent in front of the opposition goal this season.

However, if the Reds would have to sell either Mane or Salah to fund a move for Sancho, they will be better off opting for a cheaper alternative as Klopp is in no position to lose any more of his best players, especially when Georginio Wijnaldum is likely to leave the Merseyside club when his contract runs out at the end of this campaign.
