Steven Gerrard made his first re-appearance on BT Sport on Saturday since his most recent managerial post with Aston Villa came to an end.

The Anfield crowd were ecstatic to welcome their club hero back home and he rightfully received an excellent reception from the stadium.

Naturally, with Gerrard tasked to provide analysis of the upcoming Liverpool vs Chelsea game, the Scouser faced plenty of questions pre-game about his former club’s situation – which has been pretty dire of late.

With one of those questions centering around the needs of Liverpool’s midfield and the potential transfer of one Jude Bellingham.

The Reds have been amongst the favourites to sign the much-sought after star for a long time now. However, there is a risk that the club could be priced out of a move with Real Madrid and other big-spending institutions taking interest.

But Gerrard clearly thinks that would be an absolute disaster and desperately wants Bellingham to sign for his beloved Liverpool.

Speaking before kick-off, he even joked that he would be willing to get involved in negotiations.

“All he needs to do is send his diary to me, when he’s got a free day. I’ll fly to Dortmund personally, take him out for a nice dinner and we’ll talk about it.”

Gerrard’s clearly joking, but let’s not pretend like he wouldn’t love to do that given the chance.

He also spoke of the benefits of Bellingham joining Liverpool.

“I’m sure Jude’s bright enough to go ‘hang on a minute, this is gonna be a 60,000 seater stadium, they have one of the best five managers in the world, they’ve won the Premier League of late, they have been in Champions League finals.

“‘They also play very well here (Anfield). They’ve got some fabulous players, they develop players. So, it’s obvious Liverpool ticks a lot of boxes.'”

And you aren’t wrong, Stevie. However, with Liverpool currently occupying ninth spot in the table, they are surely going to have to at least reach the Champions League places if they want to attract someone of Bellingham’s calibre.
