Scorers: Mané 31′; Thiago 90′

Liverpool continue to hang on in the hunt for Champions League football as they narrowly overcame Southampton in a nervy contest at Anfield.

Sadio Mané gave the hosts the lead when he headed in from close range for his first home goal in 2021.

But Liverpool had to rely on some inspired goalkeeping from Alisson before making sure of a win that keeps them alive in the race for the top four when Thiago curled home brilliantly from the edge of the box in the final minute.

They’re now six points behind fourth-placed Leicester but do have a game more to play than the Foxes’ three.

Manchester City 1-2 Chelsea

Scorers: Sterling 45′; Ziyech 63′, Alonso 90+2

Manchester City were made to wait for their Premier League title after losing 2-1 against Chelsea on home soil.

Raheem Sterling was fortunate to avoid a red card after his studs-up challenge on Timo Werner, so naturally he netted before half-time after being found by Gabriel Jesus.

Billy Gilmour fouled Jesus in the penalty area seconds later, but Sergio Agüero was made to look ridiculous after Édouard Mendy saved his panenka penalty.

Chelsea equalised after Cesar Azpilicueta robbed Rodri in possession before squaring for Hakim Ziyech, who fired a left-footed strike past Ederson.

Kurt Zouma was lucky to avoid giving away another penalty after fouling Sterling, before Marcos Alonso scored the winner in injury time to stun the hosts.

Sheffield United 0-2 Crystal Palace

Scorers: Benteke 2′, Eze 88′

Sheffield United’s miserable season continued with a drab defeat at home to Crystal Palace on Saturday afternoon.

Eberechi Eze did well to tee up Christian Benteke for the opening goal inside 90 seconds as the striker’s effort took a huge deflection off the retreating George Baldock and beyond Aaron Ramsdale.

And the 22-year-old got the goal he deserved in the final minutes when he breezed into the box from his own half before another deflected strike found its way into the net.

Palace move up to 13th, while the Blades stay bottom after their 28th loss of the campaign.

Leeds United 3-1 Tottenham Hotspur

Scorers: Dallas 13′, Bamford 42′, Rodrigo 84′; Son 25′

Tottenham’s slim top four hopes were dealt another huge blow after they suffered defeat to Leeds United at Elland Road.

The hosts stormed into an early lead when Stuart Dallas blasted home after Hugo Lloris parried Sergio Reguilón’s mistake into the path of the defender.

However, Son Heung-min equalised for the visitors with an assured finish from inside the box after Dele Alli’s pass had deflected into his path.

Harry Kane then had a goal ruled out for a contentious offside before Patrick Bamford restored Leeds’ lead with a tap-in from Ezgjan Alioski’s pull-back after a well-worked team move.

Rodrigo came off the bench to wrap up the three points when he tapped home Raphinha’s pass six minutes from time which means Marcelo Bielsa’s team move up to ninth in the table.

Spurs remain in sixth, five points off the Champions League qualification places.
