Virgil van Dijk alongside Alisson
According to reports, Saudi Pro League side Al Nassr ‘want’ to sign Brazil international Alisson Becker from Premier League giants Liverpool.
Liverpool have been impacted by the attempted expansion of the Saudi Pro League this summer as Jordan Henderson and Fabinho have left the club to move to the Middle East for fees after Roberto Firmino joined Al-Alhi on a free transfer.
The Reds have received around £50m in fees for the two midfielders. Henderson has reunited with Steven Gerrard at Al-Ettifaq, while Fabinho has signed for Al-Ittihad.
Now Alisson could join his three former teammates in leaving Liverpool for the Saudi Pro League, if reports are to be believed.
The 30-year-old has emerged as one of the best goalkeepers in the world and he has been one of Liverpool’s standout performers since joining them from AS Roma for around £66m in 2018.
Alisson remains one of the leading goalkeepers in the world but French outlet Foot Mercato are reporting that he is ‘wanted’ by Al Nassr.
Man Utd legend Cristiano Ronaldo made headlines when he signed for Al Nassr earlier this year and he’s since been joined by ex-Liverpool forward Sadio Mane, Alex Telles, David Ospina and Marcelo Brozovic.
According to Foot Mercato, Saudi Arabia ‘continues to loot’ Liverpool as they are ‘very interested’ in Alisson.
The report states: ‘According to our information, Al Nassr is very interested in the Brazilian goalkeeper of the Reds.
‘Nawaf Al-Aqidi’s performance yesterday against Al-Ettifaq (2-1 defeat) convinced the club where CR7 and Sadio Mané play to take action. For his part, Alisson is rather tempted by this new challenge.’
Liverpool are in the market for Fabinho’s replacement but they have been dealt two big blows in recent days as Chelsea have beat them in the race to sign Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia.
Brighton CEO Paul Barber has revealed that Liverpool acted “professionally” during their pursuit of Caicedo.
“Liverpool are a fantastic club – you’d imagine anyone would be running up the M6 for the chance to play at Anfield, but for whatever reason, Moises and his advisors decided London was their preferred destination.
“In that situation we’re in a difficult position; we’ve negotiated a British record deal deal and spent several days working with Liverpool – who were professional throughout.
“At that point [when the player chooses not to go] we’re out of the loop, it is all between the player and Liverpool. When it became clear he isn’t going to be joining Liverpool, we have to go into a different mode, we then have to do it all again [negotiate a British record transfer], which we did.”
