Liverpool return to Premier League action on Saturday with a home fixture against Southampton, aiming to maintain their momentum after a hard-fought 1-0 victory over PSG in midweek. Arne Slot faces some key selection decisions, with Cody Gakpo’s fitness still uncertain ahead of the clash at Anfield.
Gakpo missed the Champions League win in Paris after picking up a minor injury in training, and while it is not a long-term issue, Slot confirmed that a late call will be made on his availability. “Let’s see if he can train today,” Slot said. “A close call, not a long-term one but had some pain yesterday. Let’s see where he is today.”
If Gakpo remains sidelined, Diogo Jota is expected to keep his place alongside Mohamed Salah and Luis Diaz in the attacking trio, although Darwin Nunez remains an option should Slot opt for a different approach.

Harvey Elliott played a crucial role off the bench against PSG, netting the late winner, but despite his impact, he is unlikely to displace Salah. Slot acknowledged Elliott’s frustration over playing time but praised his quality, stating: “I can understand that he is sometimes frustrated by the playing time he gets because he is a good player… but he is in competition for players that I hardly take off.”

Dominik Szoboszlai continues to be a key presence in Liverpool’s midfield, providing energy and attacking intent, while Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister are expected to complete the trio in the centre.
Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Konate, Van Dijk, Robertson; Gravenberch, Mac Allister; Salah, Szoboszlai, Diaz, Jota.
Doubt: Gakpo. Injured: Morton, Gomez, Bradley.
Liverpool will look to keep the pressure on at the top of the table, but with Southampton eager to test themselves against a top side, Slot’s team must be at their sharpest to secure all three points.
