Liverpool set to sign Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig | OneFootball

Fabrizio Romano has reported that Liverpool have agreed a deal to sign Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig.

The deal is said to be ‘done’ and will be signed soon – as The Reds have triggered the 22-year-old’s €70m release clause, which was reportedly set to expire today.

Personal terms have also been agreed between the player and the club and the Hungarian international is now ready for medical tests.

The news of the agreed deal comes hours after the Reds were reported to be ‘pushing ahead’ with the move, as the two sides discussed the transfer during their talks over Fábio Carvalho’s season-long loan to the German club, which has now also been completed.

Having signed for Leipzig from sister club RB Salzburg for €22m in July 2021, the attacking midfielder has had two impressive years in Germany, accumulting 10 goals and 13 assists in 46 appearances in all competitions in the most recent season, as his side finished third in the Bundesliga table and won the DFB Pokal. These performances have earned him a market valuation of €50m, according to Transfermarkt, meaning the Merseyside club will be paying slightly over this valuation by triggering the release clause.

The move will mark Liverpool’s second signing of the summer under new sporting director Jörg Schmadtke, as they look to strengthen their midfield ahead of next season. The £35m acquisition of Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton has already been confirmed, whilst more defensive options such as OGC Nice’s Khéperen Thuram and Southampton’s Roméo Lavia are also on their list of midfielders.

With the Argentinian’s close control and reliability in possession and Szoboszlai’s excellent long-range shooting, set-piece taking, and creativity, the two will be valuable additions to Jürgen Klopp’s side next season- as they look rediscover their form and improve upon their disappointing fifth place finish in the Premier League table last campaign.
