Liverpool could miss out on multi-million payout as Yasser Larouci holds talks with French club

According to the Liverpool Echo, 20-year-old Yasser Larouci is in talks with French club Troyes for a move this summer – a move that could make Liverpool miss out on millions.

The Algerian, who joined Liverpool 4 years ago is set to be out of contract this summer. He has been offered a new deal by the Reds, but due to his need for consistent game-time, Larouci might join Troyes, which come under the ownership of City Football Group, who are also the owners of English rivals Man City.

Yasser Larouci could be on his way to French club Troyes

However, this deal could cost Liverpool millions because they could have been on the end of a compensation package had Larouci joined an English club instead. This is because the defender is a professional player under the age of 24, which means that Liverpool, who are his training club, would be entitled to a compensation package should the player turn down a new contract and leave at the end of his current deal.

Thus, had Larouci decided to move to an English club instead, Liverpool would have been free to discuss a compensation package with interested suitors, with a tribunal ruling a fee in case of a deal not being agreed by two parties. Liverpool went through something similar when they signed Harvey Elliot from Fulham in the summer of 2019.

While nobody knows the amount of compensation Liverpool could have earned had Larouci signed for an English club, the Reds did receive £4million when Liverpool youngster Jerome Sinclair left the club to sign for Watford back in 2016.

The defender will be out of contract this summer

Thus, Liverpool would now be entitled to roughly £250,000 if Larouci joins French club Troyes, which would be a big blow to the Reds considering that Leeds United and Brentford were interested in signing the player – a move that could have earned a multi-million payout. Liverpool have already made nearly £30million from transfer sales this summer.
