Transfer News: Manchester City enter Florian Neuhaus race with Liverpool

According to a report by Spanish publication AS (h/t Express), Manchester City could rival Liverpool for Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder, Florian Neuhaus.

There is a chance that Bernardo Silva and Fernandinho leave in the summer and hence, City want to strengthen in midfield. Liverpool are looking to replace Georginio Wijnaldum, who is set to join PSG, and are linked with Neuhaus.

However, the 24-year-old has caught the attention of some of Europe’s best clubs. Apart from the Reds and Pep Guardiola’s City, Bayern Munich are also potential suitors. (h/t Express)

The links with Bayern got so heated that Neuhaus had to himself deny that he had not agreed on a deal with the Bavarians and pledged his loyalty to Monchengladbach.

“I read that my move to FC Bayern in 2022 was already a done deal, I can clearly deny that here and now. I haven’t signed a contract anywhere except with Borussia Mönchengladbach.”

Battle for Florian Neuhaus

He is currently with the German national team at the UEFA Euros 2020. Liverpool do need a replacement for the departed Wijnaldum and Neuhaus could fill that role in the squad.

However, the Reds would have to be quick. With Bayern, and now City circling around the former 1860 Munich midfielder, the hype around Neuhaus has become obvious.

Another aspect of losing out on Neuhaus to City would be strengthening a direct rival. Liverpool and Manchester City have continued to rival each other for the Premier League crown in the past few seasons.
