Liverpool will only allow Joe Gomez to leave the club this summer if the Reds are able to sign Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace.
Gomez is subject of interest from several clubs, including Palace – who have requested the defender on loan as part of a potential deal for Guehi – and AC Milan.
The latter want to sign Gomez permanently, according to Fabrizio Romano. Liverpool are open to allowing the long-serving defender to depart before Monday’s transfer deadline, provided a replacement is secured first.
Guehi is the club’s top target with Liverpool in talks with Palace over a deal worth in the region of £30m.
The England international has less than 12 months to run on his contract and Palace will reluctantly sanction his sale if the club can sign a replacement of the required standard.
Gomez’s future will hinge on that deal. The 28-year-old has been with Liverpool for a decade, after joining from Charlton Athletic as a teenager in 2015.
Though Liverpool are not actively looking to offload the versatile defender, there is an acceptance that the player wants more regular minutes at this stage of his career.
He has made 242 appearances for the Merseysiders but has struggled for fitness and favour during his time at Anfield. Gomez is open to exploring his options as he looks to make the England squad for next summer’s World Cup.
