Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has made Fiorentina midfielder Sofyan Amrabat one of his ‘favourite transfer options’ this summer, according to reports.

The Reds are planning a bit of an overhaul of their midfield this summer with Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, James Milner and Naby Keita all leaving on free transfers in the summer.

and that went up a level in March when the Reds were ruled out the transfer race for Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jude Bellingham.

And now Spanish publication Fichajes reveal that Liverpool have a ‘secret option’ to reinforce their midfield ranks with Klopp making Amrabat his ‘one of his favour options’ to improve defensive midfield.

Although Liverpool are a big pull around Europe because of their history and recent triumphs, a probable season without Champions League football next term could harm their ability to bring in players.

But Amrabat seems like a realistic transfer and Klopp has already ‘requested the signing’ at board level and that Liverpool are ‘willing to pay’ €40m (£35m) for the 26-year-old.

The Morocco international sees it as a ‘great opportunity’ for his playing career, while Serie A side Fiorentina are ‘rubbing its hands’ at the thought of making an important sale.

Amrabat had an exceptional World Cup for Morocco and he could now earn a move off the back of those performances and he has to decide between two options: take the ‘biggest leap in quality of his career’ or remain at Fiorentina.

Ahead of the January transfer window, in which Liverpool only signed Cody Gakpo, former Tottenham and England goalkeeper Paul Robinson was convinced that Amrabat would make a good signing for the Reds.

Robinson told Football Insider in December: “Liverpool need a midfielder. Amrabat is a top-quality player and he would also be another body in the building.

“I have watched him play at Fiorentina this year and I was impressed. The World Cup has really cemented my opinion of him. I think he would do very well at a club like Liverpool. I think the Premier League would really suit his style of play.

“It is important that Liverpool sign at least one midfielder in January. I know it is notoriously a difficult month to do business but they simply have to. They cannot risk going into the second half of the season with their current midfielder options.

“Amrabat would be a big help. They should try their best to win the race for him.”
