Liverpool’s summer strategy may revolve around evolution, but retaining core talent remains equally essential. As Caught Offside reports, the club now finds itself in a delicate position with Luis Diaz, who is attracting serious interest from Al Hilal and Al Nassr, as well as tentative admiration from Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.
While Arne Slot looks to rebuild with energy and intent, the potential loss of another headline player after Trent Alexander-Arnold’s confirmed exit to Real Madrid would risk undermining the club’s early progress. Diaz is at the centre of a dilemma — and Liverpool must weigh ambition against market pressure.

Caught Offside reveals that “Diaz has not yet made a decision on his future, but Al Nassr and Al Hilal are serious about trying to sign him this summer.” Both Saudi clubs are said to be “preparing bids in the region of €85m to test Liverpool’s resolve,” though no formal talks have taken place at this stage.
That sum would represent a significant financial offer for a player who, while still a regular starter, turns 29 early next year. Yet, Liverpool appear keen to keep their Colombian winger, and “some positive talks have already taken place between Slot and the player,” suggesting efforts are underway to secure his commitment.
Diaz’s performances last season — 17 goals and five assists — were instrumental in Liverpool’s Premier League triumph, reaffirming his status as a valuable component of the team. Unsurprisingly, his form has not gone unnoticed abroad.
Caught Offside notes that “Barca and Atletico appreciate Diaz but are only monitoring the situation for the moment.” Their involvement remains speculative, particularly in Barcelona’s case, due to ongoing financial constraints.

The reported interest in Florian Wirtz signals a potential tactical tweak for Liverpool’s attack. If a new creator arrives, Diaz may no longer be an automatic starter. That scenario, paired with the lure of a bumper payday in Saudi Arabia, could influence the winger’s thinking.
But as things stand, Liverpool are determined to keep the 28-year-old, valuing his explosive dribbling, work rate, and versatility. New manager Slot reportedly sees him as an essential bridge between eras: a proven performer who can adapt to his more possession-based blueprint.
This is one of those transfer sagas that tests patience and perspective. Luis Diaz is a crowd favourite, admired for his commitment, flair, and the sort of passion that lifts a ground like Anfield on cold midweek nights. Seeing his name linked with Saudi money feels more unsettling than strategic.
€85 million is a tempting figure, but is there really a ready-made replacement out there who guarantees Diaz’s impact? Even if Wirtz arrives, he’s not a like-for-like option. Diaz has the ability to create something out of nothing and consistently stretches teams in a way that’s rare across Europe.
That said, if the player himself becomes tempted, then there’s a very different conversation to be had. So far, the report gives hope, Slot is engaging with Diaz directly, which is vital. He needs to feel central to what’s coming, not just part of the outgoing group.
This summer is about building, not breaking down. Losing Trent is one thing, but losing Diaz on top of that would risk losing balance. Hopefully, that positive dialogue turns into a new contract, and we can put this one to bed.
