ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

Elliott enjoyed an incredible first full season in senior football at Blackburn. The winger scored seven goals and provided 11 assists in 31 starts for the Championship side, although failed to help them reach the play-offs as they finished in mid-table. He showed that he has the quality to produce consistently in the second tier, which suggests that he could have the potential to make an impact in the Premier League if given the chance.

It is now down to Liverpool, as the article states, to weigh up whether they want him in-and-around the first-team next season or to send him on loan to a team in the Premier League. On the one hand, Elliott could benefit from a season of being a rotation option in Klopp’s squad. He could take up Xherdan Shaqiri’s role of playing in cup competitions and being used as an impact substitute in the Premier League, allowing him to learn from the likes of Mo Salah and Sadio Mane whilst still getting minutes here and there.

On the other hand, Elliott could join a team lower down the Premier League table and have a greater chance of playing regular football. He could then gain valuable experience week-in-week-out in the top-tier, although the club could then run the risk of him going somewhere and not playing, which could be detrimental to his development next season. So, it will be interesting to see what Klopp and Liverpool opt to do with the youngster.
