Liverpool are reportedly preparing an offer to sign Brazilian centre-back Gleison Bremer from Serie A side Torino at the end of the season.
According to TuttoSport, as transcribed by Sport Witness, Liverpool have been tracking Bremer for a number of years, with the defender catching Jurgen Klopp’s eye in 2018, and an offer for him could be on the way in the coming months.
The report also claims that Torino are desperate to keep hold of Bremer and could offer him a new contract in an attempt to dissuade him from pursuing a move to England.
ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT
Earlier this week, a report claimed that Fulham, West Ham and Everton have joined the race to sign Bremer. It is interesting that this latest update has come out just days later, as it could suggest that Liverpool have sped up their pursuit of the defender to avoid ending up in a bidding war in the summer – if the aforementioned Premier League sides also get involved. Liverpool making their move early could catch the other teams by surprise and give them the edge in negotiations to get a deal done.
Although, all of this could be a moot point if Torino are successful in their attempts to tie Bremer down to a new contract. If the Brazilian does extend his stay in Italy then that could end any chance of Liverpool bringing him over to Anfield, as it could show that he is committed to staying with Torino and being a part of their project in the Serie A.
At this point, it appears as though there is not much Liverpool can do until Bremer makes a decision over a new deal with Torino, if/when they offer him one. If he rejects the chance to stay at Torino and wants to discuss a transfer, then Liverpool could be in business and have the chance to make their move.
