Liverpool are reportedly keeping tabs on Brighton centre-back Ben White as they consider whether or not to make a move for him.

According to Football Insider, White remains on Liverpool’s radar after they looked at him over the summer following the end of his loan spell with Leeds. He has now started the season as a regular for Brighton in the Premier League.

The report claims that Liverpool do have doubts over White, though, as they are concerned about his lack of success in aerial battles. White is said to have recorded excellent stats in other areas of his game, but fell short when it came to winning headers.

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

Should Liverpool go in for White in January? On current evidence, no they should avoid making a bid for the defender. White has not had the most convincing of starts to the season, with 11 goals conceded in the league so far and a WhoScored rating of just 6.64 across the first five games.

White is only 23 and he could need more time to develop his game and find ways to improve his success percentage in aerial battles in the coming years. If he can develop and start to show improvement in the air over the course of this season, or even next season, then maybe Liverpool could go back in and try to sign him.

For now, though, Liverpool could be better off looking at ready-made defenders who can come in with no glaring faults to improve their side – if they can find one. With Van Dijk possibly out for the season, the door could be open for Liverpool to pursue a central defender in the January transfer window when it opens in just over two months.
