Liverpool midfielder Xherdan Shaqiri is ‘deemed surplus to requirements’ at Anfield, according to The Mirror.
With that being the case, Liverpool are reportedly looking to sell Shaqiri this summer.
Liverpool signed Shaqiri from Stoke City for a transfer fee of €14.70 million back in the summer of 2018.
Since then, Shaqiri has gone on to score eight goals and register nine assists in 63 appearances for the club.
ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT
Shaqiri’s current contract expires in the summer of 2023. Therefore, Liverpool will receive a transfer fee if the Swiss international does depart the club this summer.
Shaqiri possesses a current market value of €12 million. Also, Shaqiri showed at the 2020 Euros that he is far from finished as a professional footballer.
The midfielder averaged a WhoScored player rating of 7.24 across the tournament. With that being the case, we believe that Liverpool will be able to sell Shaqiri for a fee close to his current market value.
If Shaqiri and the club part ways this summer, we will wish the midfielder all the best going forward. Once a Red, always a Red.
