The report adds that McKennie would like to play for a club that competes in Europe.

Schalke are apparently struggling financially, which means that several key players are expected to leave the club in the upcoming transfer window. CBS suggest that McKennie could be one of those players to depart the club.

The report states that the United States international is valued at around $25 million.

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

McKennie has made 32 appearances for Schalke this season. He has scored one goal and registered one assist.

I would personally like to see a few more goals next to his name. Liverpool don’t score enough goals from midfield.

In the Premier League this season, midfielder Jordan Henderson has scored four goals. No other Liverpool midfielder has scored more.

But, McKennie is still only 21 years of age, which means that he has plenty of time left in his career to add goals to his game.

With that being the case, if Liverpool do want McKennie, they should buy him now.

McKennie’s contract expires in 2024, but as Schalke are apparently struggling financially, Liverpool should be able to purchase him reasonably cheap. Schalke ultimately need the money.

McKennie apparently wants to play for a club that competes in Europe, and Liverpool compete in the UEFA Champions League.

That does give Liverpool an advantage in terms of signing McKennie.
