According to Liverpool Echo, Liverpool have reportedly been in pursuit of Moises Caicedo from Brighton & Hove Albion. It is understood that the Reds would have to offer in the region of £50 million to tempt Brighton into selling him. However, they’ve been told that they stand no chance of acquiring his signature in the January transfer window despite being linked to him for quite some time.

Caicedo has impressed with his recent performances in the central areas of the field as he has put in some influential displays defensively. The Ecuadorian midfielder has found the back of the net on one occasion over six appearances in the Premier League.

The Santo Domingo-born sensation has been reliable in the centre of the park as he has averaged 2.7 tackles, 1.8 interceptions, 1.3 long balls and 0.7 clearances per game in the English first division. He has also been accurate with his ball distribution after completing 83.7% of his attempted passes in the English top-flight (stats via whoscored).

Caicedo has a strong defensive presence in the midfield areas; as he can make some clever interceptions and doesn’t mind putting his foot into a tackle. He excels at marking the opposition attackers and does well to win the ball back for his side. Furthermore, standing at just 1.78 meters he can surprisingly dominate his opponents in aerial duels.

The 20-year-old has proved that he has the potential to become one of the best holding midfielders in Europe and could certainly grow further under Jurgen Klopp. However, with Brighton hiring Roberto De Zerbi as their new manager, it would be difficult to convince them to sell their young prospect so early on.

The other factor lies in the World Cup being just two months away which would mean that the newly appointed manager would not have enough time to assess his options. Although, Klopp could try to bring him to Anfield if they make an irrefutable offer which would demand an astronomical price.
