Spanish goalkeeper Adrian has signed a new contract with Liverpool to put an end to speculation over him potentially walking away from Anfield this summer.

The Spanish stopper had been linked away considerably from Liverpool in the last few weeks with him behind Alisson and Caoimhin Kelleher in the pecking order at the club now.

However, the Reds like to have three stoppers available to them and the two parties have come to an agreement, with the Spaniard having this to say via the club’s official website:

“I’m delighted, I’m very happy to stay in the club,” the No.13 told Liverpoolfc.com.

“Firstly, because it’s a reward from the club for the hard work that I’ve been doing since I signed two years ago. I really appreciate that confidence from the club, from the manager and from everyone involved in that situation.

“And secondly, and above all of that, it’s a pleasure to stay in Liverpool – it’s such a big club. But being as well a family club, it’s very special for any player to stay here. I am privileged.”

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

Adrian is widely seen as Liverpool’s number three goalkeeper these days but that’s not such a bad thing.

He’s got certainly decent enough quality to still help with the Reds’ squad, even if he has had the odd mistake in his time at the club.

He’ll help Kelleher come along nicely and also seems a popular member of the group, so it’s clear the Reds wanted to keep him around.
