Manchester City ‘raised eyebrows’ among those at Liverpool over a travel decision made for a recent Under-23s meeting between the two clubs, a new report has revealed.

The two clubs have been the Premier League’s prized squads over the best part of the last decade, with the legendary Pep Guardiola and Jurgen Klopp competing for the top-flight crown on multiple occasions.

The Catalan coach has come out on top in five seasons in England, as he now looks towards claiming an unprecedented fourth successive Premier League title in a season that will also mark the end of Klopp’s reign at Anfield.

But the rivalry between the two senior squads is not the end of the story, with Manchester City and Liverpool seemingly firing subtle shots at one another away from the top of the professional game, with a new report pointing towards a recent incident at Academy level.

According to the information of MailSport’s Mike Keegan, ‘eyebrows were raised’ at Liverpool’s training ground when Manchester City’s Under-23s turned up for a recent match in the club’s first-team bus – ’emblazoned’ with the five trophies won last season.

It is reported that some have wondered whether the move was a ‘cheeky attempt by Manchester City officials at re-emphasising their superiority last year’, all amid a strong rivalry between the two clubs both on and off the field.

Merseyside Police ensured that there would be no repeat of the disgraceful scenes from 2019 this season, as Manchester City and their bottle-proof coach arrived at Anfield for their recent Premier League meeting.

The two teams played out a hotly-contested 1-1 draw on Merseyside, with John Stones’ first-half effort cancelled out early into the second period of the game by an Alexis Mac Allister penalty.

Manchester City and Liverpool remain embroiled in a Premier League title race with Mikel Arteta and his Arsenal squad, while the Gunners travel to the Etihad Stadium in the return of club action following the international break this weekend.
