As reported by David Ornstein of The Athletic, Liverpool are ‘pushing ahead’ to sign RB Leipzig’s Dominik Szoboszlai.

The deal initially looked difficult for The Reds to complete, however, with Newcastle now out of the race, the situation has now changed, and they are confident in getting the deal done.

The two sides are already involved in talks over the season-long loan of Fábio Carvalho to the German club, which is set to be completed this Friday, and it is believed that the deal over the Hungarian has ‘inevitably’ come up.

The 22-year-old has a €70m release clause inserted in his current contract, which runs until June 2026, however there are conflicting reports over when that clause expires, with Fabrizio Romano reporting that it’s expiry date is as soon as June 30 (today).

Having signed for Leipzig from sister club RB Salzburg for €22m in July 2021, Szoboszlai has had two impressive years in Germany, accumalting 10 goals and 13 assists in 46 appearances in all competitions in the most recent season, as his side finished third in the Bundesliga table and won the DFB Pokal. These performances have earned him a market valuation of €50m, according to Transfermarkt, meaning the Anfield side would be paying slightly over this valuation should they trigger his release clause.

With his excellent set-piece taking and creativity, the attacking midfielder is of keen interest to Jürgen Klopp’s side as they look to bolster a variety of roles in their midfield, with more defensive options such as Khepheren Thuram of OGC Nice and Southampton’s Romeo Lavia are also on their list- whilst the the signing of World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton has already been confirmed this summer.
