Liverpool have been given a huge boost in their bid to sign RB Leipzig midfielder Dominik Szoboszlai.

Szoboszlai made his breakthrough at RB Salzburg from 2018 to 2021. During that time, he featured 83 times for the Austrian club, netting 26 goals.

The Hungary international has played a key role for Die Roten Bullen over the last two-and-a-half years, most recently scoring the second goal in their 2-0 win over Eintracht Frankfurt in the DFB Pokal final.

The 22-year-old has been heavily linked with a move to the Premier League this summer. Liverpool are known admirers, while Newcastle United also looked to bring him to England after missing out on James Maddison.

The Reds are ready to take negotiations to the next level, while Newcastle have pulled out of the race for his signature.

Liverpool are hoping to get back amongst the best in Europe, having suffered an underwhelming campaign.

They finished outside the top four for the first time since 2017 and were also unable to add to their trophy cabinet.

World Cup winner Alexis Mac Allister has been brought in from Brighton & Hove Albion, but more recruits will be necessary.

Roberto Firmino, Naby Keita, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain have all departed on free transfers, and Arthur Melo has returned to his parent club Juventus.

Meanwhile, youngster Fabio Carvalho is on the verge of a loan move to RB Leipzig. The transfer is believed to be separate from the Szoboszlai deal.

Liverpool will begin their campaign with the headline match of the Premier League’s opening weekend, facing Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. They will welcome Bournemouth to Anfield the following week.
