With Harry Wilson set to leave in a deal worth up to £12 million, Liverpool are on course to make £33.5 million, as revealed by Anfield Watch, from summer departures as Jurgen Klopp gains crucial funds for potential incomings.

The fee has been tallied from a total of five departures. Marko Grujic left for Porto in a deal worth £10.5 million; Taiwo Awoniyi joined Union Berlin for £6.5 million; Liam Millar departed to Basel for £1.3 million whilst Kamil Grabara left for FC Copenhagen for £3 million.

Add Wilson’s price of £12 million on top and Liverpool may have enough to recruit some players after the departures. The summer business sums up how the Reds like to operate. Any money they spend, usually finds its way back via sales.

Take Ibrahima Konate, for example. The defender cost Liverpool £34 million and the Reds, once Wilson’s move goes through, would have recouped £33.3 million of that.

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

It is clear from the business this summer that Liverpool are waiting to sell fringe players before finding new and improved arrivals. It takes a lot of patience, but eventually the tactic should work from a sustainability point of view.

With three weeks to go until the Premier League season commences, however, Liverpool will need to act quickly if they want to bring reinforcements in. There is no doubt that the biggest priority must be to find a Gini Wijnaldum replacement. Whether Liverpool find one in time, remains to be seen, however.
