Liverpool are reportedly targeting Bournemouth’s Dean Huijsen as a long-term replacement for Virgil van Dijk, according to Daveockop.com. The Reds, having endured two quiet transfer windows under Richard Hughes, are set to step up their recruitment this summer.
Arne Slot, Liverpool’s current manager, acknowledged the club’s plans: “I know people sometimes question this because they haven’t seen us doing a lot in the transfer market in the summer and now in the winter as well. There’s a reason for that – because we’re happy with the squad,” he said. “But I do know we’re definitely working on strengthening in the summer.”

While new signings are expected, Liverpool may also face notable departures. Darwin Nunez has drawn interest from Saudi Arabia, while the futures of Trent Alexander-Arnold, Mohamed Salah, and Virgil van Dijk remain uncertain due to unresolved contract situations.
Salah’s agent recently stirred optimism among fans by liking a post suggesting the Egyptian star will remain at Anfield. However, Real Madrid continues to push for Alexander-Arnold, and there are concerns over Van Dijk’s long-term future despite his loyalty: “Van Dijk remains ever-committed to Liverpool as he tries to become the first Dutchman to captain a team to a Premier League title.”

According to TEAMTalk, Liverpool are keen on securing 19-year-old Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen. The report states: “Liverpool are planning to sign a new centre-back this summer and view Bournemouth star Dean Huijsen as a potential long-term replacement for Virgil van Dijk.”
The Reds face stiff competition from Chelsea for Huijsen’s signature. Bournemouth are attempting to extend his contract, but the defender is aware of the growing interest from top clubs.
Huijsen, who joined Bournemouth for under £15 million, has impressed this season with two goals in 21 Premier League appearances. Ironically, Liverpool had shown interest in the youngster before his move to the Cherries.
Liverpool supporters are likely to feel expectant yet cautious about this report. Dean Huijsen undoubtedly has potential, but there are lingering questions about his readiness to fill Van Dijk’s shoes. Fans will recall past transfer sagas and hope that the club moves swiftly if the interest is genuine.
Some may also feel concerned about possible exits. Losing a pillar like Van Dijk would be seismic, and the uncertainty around Alexander-Arnold and Salah could disrupt squad harmony. However, Slot’s comments provide assurance that reinforcements are coming.
On a positive note, Liverpool’s proactive identification of a successor for Van Dijk highlights a forward-thinking strategy under Hughes. If Huijsen signs, fans will hope he can grow into a defensive stalwart, mirroring Van Dijk’s legacy. Time will tell if this summer is one of change or continuity for the Reds.
