The release of eFootball - formerly known as Pro Evolution Soccer - in September was an absolute disaster.

There was a fair amount of excitement when Konami announced the updated version of their popular PES franchise but the game developer was forced to apologise after its messy release.

Player faces weren't accurate, AI was broken and there were several visual glitches.

It's a good thing that gamers didn't have to pay for it.

Embarrassingly for Konami, the game is the worst reviewed Steam game in history with just 8% of votes being positives.

Konami apologies in a statement

It prompted a swift statement from the company following the release.

"We would also like to acknowledge that there have been reports of problems users have experienced with cut-scenes, facial expressions, movements of players and the behaviour of the ball," the statement read.

“We are very sorry for the problems and want to assure everyone we will take all concerns seriously and strive to improve the current situation.

However, it doesn't look like Konami have paid much attention to improving player faces.

A video shows how Liverpool's players will look in the game and they range from unrealistic to terrifying.

Here's Andy Robertson, too.

The rest of the players' faces are available to see in the video below and it's all a bit of a shambles.

eFootball players will have to wait for the game's first major patch.

Expected on October 28, the patch will now come in early November, Konami said in a statement.

No word yet on whether Firmino will actually look like Firmino.
