Liverpool came away 3-1 winners in their Champions League opener against AC Milan at the San Siro stadium. After a rocky start, the Reds came away with the three points after an impressive comeback.

Here are our player ratings:

Alisson - 8/10

Alisson made crucial saves commanding his area well for the vast majority of the game. Not much he could've done to stop AC Milan's opening goal.

Trent Alexander-Arnold - 8/10

Trent delivered an exceptional pin-point cross to provide the assist for Liverpool's equaliser, equalling Cafu, Paul Pogba and Ronaldinho's record in the competition. The vice-captain was a constant attacking threat on the right flank and did well to stop Rafael Leao becoming a threat.

Ibrahima Konate - 9/10

Konate got himself on the scoresheet for the first time in two and a half years with an exceptional header, towering above the Milan players. Solid defensive performance with important clearances and interceptions and partnered well with Van Dijk but had moments where he needed to tighten his focus.

Virgil van Dijk - 9/10

Van Dijk wasn't to be outdone by his French counterpart with another fantastic header from a set-piece. Strong defensive presence, excellent in aerial duels, and provided leadership at the back, playing a key role in neutralising AC Milan’s forwards.

Kostas Tsimikas - 7/10

Provided the assist for Van Dijk's goal. Was caught out for Milan's opening goal but soon bounced back and otherwise had a solid game down the left hand-side.

Ryan Gravenberch - 7/10

A quiet but important game for Gravenberch. He is looking increasingly more confident in that Number 6 role ,working tirelessly in the midfield, providing both defensive support and linking play. Made several important passes and was involved in maintaining midfield balance.

Alexis Mac Allister - 7/10

A quiet game for the Argentine who did his job well but did little of note. He played his part in Liverpool's dominance and helped support Ryan Gravenberch. Overall a solid performance but nothing spectacular.

Dominik Szoboszlai - 8/10

Despite a quiet first half Szoboszlai started the second half strong, scoring a goal after Arne Slot demanded more of the midfielder in his pre-Milan presser. His goal also marks five years since he score on his UCL debut for Red Bull Salzburg. . Played a key role in controlling the midfield and orchestrating Liverpool’s play, often dictating the pace of the game.

Mohamed Salah - 7/10

A frustrating game for the Egyptian who failed to get on the scoresheet for the second game in a row, hitting the woodwork. However, he was a constant threat to AC Milan’s defence with his pace and dribbling ability.

Diogo Jota - 7/10

A relatively quiet game for Jota, he didn't have his best game but also didn't make any major mistakes. The Portugal star was pretty anonymous for large parts of the game and will need to be more involved in future matches.

Cody Gakpo - 8/10

A first start for Gakpo, providing the assist for Szoboszlai's goal. Provided a strong link-up play and was involved in the build-up to goal. He looked solid on the left and looks comfortable in the position,

Substitutes:

Luis Diaz (68' for Gakpo) - 7/10

It was a solid performance but he was coming into a side that wanted to control the game, not ruthlessly go for goal. He did his job well and didn't put a foot wrong.

Darwin Nunez (68' for Diaz) - 7/10

Nunez looked okay when he came on, he probably didn't play enough to properly settle in to the match and was coming into a game that was already won.

Joe Gomez (79' for Alexander-Arnold) - N/A

Offered experience and stability when introduced. Contributed to maintaining the defensive shape and provided fresh legs.

Federico Chiesa (90+3' for Salah) - N/A

A debut for the Italian who signed in the summer. He didn't play for long enough to give him a fair rating, he had little to do when he came on.

Wataru Endo (90+3' for Mac Allister) - N/A

Didn't really have much to do, but put in a solid performance.

Arne Slot - 8/10

Slot didn't have a lot to do with his substitutions in this game but he controlled the game well tactically and didn't let AC Milan get back into the game after the Reds rocky start.
