His current deal expires in less than 18 months, and talks over a renewal have reached a complete standstill.

The Foxes could be tempted to cash in on his services, and the Reds are aiming to take advantage.

Liverpool are willing to make a €40 million bid for the versatile midfielder.

Football Today verdict:

The Reds lost Georginio Wijnaldum on a free transfer last summer after the expiry of his contract.

They could have filled the void but decided to rely on fringe players such as Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita.

Oxlade-Chamberlain and Keita have had their moments this term, but neither have shown consistency.

This is where Tielemans could provide a solution. He is capable of playing anywhere in midfield.

The Belgian is most comfortable in the central role and has impressed with his all-round game.

The 24-year-old has nine goal contributions this term but has also been solid defensively with two tackles per game.

He would be an ideal successor to Wijnaldum. There is speculation that the Foxes may not sell to a direct rival.

However, we have seen in the past that the club have done business with the ‘Big Six’ for the right price.

The Reds could still face stiff competition with Arsenal also admirers of the Belgium international.

The north London club have held talks with the player’s entourage at London Colney over a summer move.
