Liverpool owner Tom Werner has spoken out about the takeover of Chelsea by his fellow American Todd Boehly.
The Daily Mail have quotes from the FSG partner, who knows Boehly well as they are both already owners of Major League Baseball teams.
“John Henry and I have known and admired Todd from his association with the Los Angeles Dodgers… I’ve had a couple of conversations with him in the last week. He was just picking my brain. I think he will be good for Chelsea. I know they are working right now on a stadium solution. I think he will prove to be an excellent owner,” Werner said.
Boehly is set to join not just FSG at Liverpool, but a whole host of existing American owners in the Premier League who are gradually taking over the English top flight.
It’s interesting to hear the stadium situation mentioned – it’s been the elephant in the room even since Roman Abramovich paused the plans to rebuild Stamford Bridge.
The future of the home of Chelsea was always going to be a key factor in the sale, and in the future of the club.
Boehly’s takeover is not yet complete, but now there is a green light from the Premier League and the government there’s no reason to think it won’t all be finished within the next few days.
