Liverpool have initiated discussions with German club 1. FC Nurnberg regarding a potential summer transfer for striker Stefanos Tzimas, according to Florian Plettenberg.

The report claims that a phone call between the two clubs took place just days ago, signalling intent from Liverpool to secure the promising 19-year-old.

The Merseyside club has also reportedly engaged with the player’s representatives as they look to advance negotiations.

Tzimas has garnered attention across Europe thanks to an impressive campaign in the 2. Bundesliga, where he has netted eight goals in 14 appearances this season.

He fits the power forward mould and has a variety of finishes in his locker. He can provide a welcome boost for the second half of the season.

Nurnberg are preparing to exercise their €18 million buy option for Tzimas. He is on loan from Super League club PAOK, and they plan to capitalise on his growing market value by facilitating a summer sale.

The German outfit has set a price tag of €25 million plus add-ons for the striker and have informed several interested parties, including Chelsea, Brighton & Hove Albion and Aston Villa.

Liverpool signing Tzimas would spell the beginning of the end for Darwin Nunez, who has been a bust since his £85 million move from Benfica.

The Uruguayan has shown glimpses of his talent, but his profligacy in front of goal has forced the club into the market for a new centre-forward.

Liverpool signing Tzimas could open the door for Nunez to leave permanently or on loan for the next six months to garner consistent playing time.

The writing is also on the wall for academy striker Jayden Danns, who bagged a goal in their FA Cup clash versus Accrington Stanley over the weekend.

The 18-year-old is a talented forward but may consider heading somewhere on loan this winter.

Tzimas could become Liverpool’s second arrival next summer after wrapping up a deal for Giorgio Mamardashvili.
