Liverpool attacking pair Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane are set to be staying at the club despite speculation in recent months over their respective futures.
The Reds had a tough season last time out and both Firmino and Mane had it harder than most as they struggled to really get going in terms of form and goals.
Mo Salah, of course, showed that it could still be done as he challenged to the Golden Boot and, naturally, the question was asked of the pair as to whether it was time for them to move on.
Quoted by the Liverpool Echo, though, Reds reporter Paul Gorst has said that neither will be leaving this summer:
“Liverpool won’t be getting rid of either. I think Mane will be transformed by the return of fans as it goes. Firmino I am less convinced by, long term, but if they do bring in another attacker, which I expect them to, it will be to give the team more competition for places not to replace an outgoing player such as Mane or Firmino.”
ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT
The pair will surely be eager to silence a few critics next season.
Both of them still have plenty to offer and with Diogo Jota pushing them on there should be a natural bounce back from both of them in terms of form and goals.
Indeed, there’ll be a whole host of Liverpool players looking to right the wrongs of last year and that could mean we’re in for a great season in 2021/22.
