Liverpool have completed the signing of Dutch World Cup star Cody Gakpo from PSV Eindhoven on Wednesday.
The 23-year-old has officially penned a move to Anfield and according to The Athletic, Liverpool will pay an initial fee of £37m, rising to £50m in add-ons, which will be a record fee received for an Eredivisie side.
Gakpo will wear No. 18 for Liverpool and joins at the start of the January transfer window after reaching personal terms and completing his medical.
“I feel really good, I’m really excited to be here. I’m looking forward to start training and start playing for this amazing club,” said Gakpo on the move.
“I think this is a great club for me to come in and try to show what I can [do] and try to help the team to achieve more beautiful moments that they already did in the past years.
“I think for me personally it’s also good to develop here and there’s a lot of great players here [who] I can learn a lot of things from.”
Jürgen Klopp was forced to move into the transfer market to bring in an attacking addition after losing Diogo Jota and Luiz Díaz to long-term injuries.
This has taken the Merseyside club to Gakpo, who starred for the Netherlands in Qatar after scoring three goals as they reached the quarter-final stage.
Gakpo has had a stunning season for PSV so far, scoring 12 goals and providing 14 assists in all competitions. In total, he has managed 55 goals and 50 assists in 159 senior appearances.
Frank de Boer gave him his first Netherlands cap in 2021, and he has earned another 13 for his country since, managing six goals in that period.
