Liverpool will make a final push to tie Mohamed Salah down to a new Anfield contract by making a ‘take it or leave it’ offer, according to transfer insider Dean Jones.

Sadio Mane is on his way to Bayern Munich after a deal worth £35.1million was agreed last week, but there are question marks over whether Salah – another key member of the Reds’ front three – could also leave Merseyside this summer.

What’s the latest news involving Salah?

Salah is facing an uncertain future as his current contract, which is worth £225,000-per-week, is due to expire next summer.

Liverpool have been hopeful of seeing Salah commit his long-term future to the club, but it is understood they will not be held to ransom after failing to find a compromise while the attacker looks to become one of the best-paid stars in the world.

Salah has reportedly been looking to secure a deal worth £500,000-per-week, meaning he would comfortably become the highest-earner in Liverpool’s entire history.

But, in an interview with FourFourTwo, he insisted that negotiations over a fresh agreement are not solely focused on securing a huge pay increase.

The 83-cap Egypt international has also reiterated his desire to remain at Anfield and is not fazed by the possibility of entering the final 12 months of his deal without knowing where his long-term future lies.

What has Dean Jones said about Salah?

Jones believes Liverpool are readying a final contract offer which will be lodged before the 2022/23 campaign gets underway.

However, the transfer insider warns there is a strong possibility that the £81million-rated attacker will not sign on the dotted line thanks to the proposal failing to meet the expectations of their star man and his representatives.

When asked whether Salah is more likely to leave on a free transfer next summer than be sold in the coming weeks, Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “I think so. Everyone seems pretty clear of the situation, as it stands right now.

“Liverpool set their stall out not to cave in to his demands. I believe there will be one more offer on the table for him this summer – take it or leave it.

“But I don’t think it will be at the level that Mohamed Salah’s representatives put forward.”

Can Liverpool afford to see Salah depart this summer?

Salah finished last season as the Premier League’s joint-top goalscorer, emphasising how much of a threat he has been for Liverpool.

The 30-year-old has now found the back of the net 156 times since swapping Roma for Merseyside, so it will be almost impossible to find a capable replacement.

In fact, Salah averaged more goals, shots and efforts on target than Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo – serial Ballon d’Or winners – last season, so sanctioning his exit within weeks of Mane’s departure would be a disaster.
