Liverpool are looking at a deal to add Ajax and Ghana star Mohammed Kudus to Jürgen Klopp’s squad at Anfield as the Reds look ahead to the January transfer market, according to journalist Dean Jones.

The 22-year-old is currently in Qatar on World Cup duty with Otto Addo’s squad as they look to progress past the group stage.

Liverpool transfer news – Mohammed Kudus

As per Mike Verweij of De Telegraaf in the Netherlands, Liverpool are interested in signing Kudus alongside Merseyside rivals Everton, with the latter failing in a £15m bid for the Ajax starlet at the end of the last summer transfer window, according to The Independent.

Meanwhile, transfer guru Fabrizio Romano has also stated that the Reds have been linked with a move for the young starlet in his CaughtOffside column, but at the moment there is “nothing concrete” in the deal, with the club’s main target still being Borussia Dortmund and England midfielder Jude Bellingham.

However, with the same journalist suggesting that the Anfield side won’t find out how much the latter may cost them until 2023, they may look to move on the Ajax star in January if he becomes available for a reasonable price.

And Jones has said that Kudus’ World Cup performances have shown that the forward-minded midfielder is capable of rising to the big occasion ahead of a potential Liverpool move.

What has Jones said about Kudus and Liverpool?

Jones told GIVEMESPORT: “Liverpool are looking at him and they just need to make sure he raises the quality of the squad enough if they’re going to go ahead and make that move.

“The World Cup has given them an idea of his mentality and how he can rise to an occasion, I think that’s key. It’s going to be very interesting.”

What next for Kudus and Liverpool?

Despite exciting transfer interest from Europe, Kudus’ immediate focus will be helping Ghana to progress to the last 16 of the World Cup for the first time since 2010, with the African nation facing a showdown with Uruguay on Friday, in a re-match of a quarter-final from 12 years ago when the South Americans knocked the four-time AFCON winners out of the tournament in controversial fashion.

The 20-time international, who has previously been described as “very special” by now AEK Athens player Tom van Weert, will hope to take his scintillating form into Friday’s crunch clash, having scored two goals in the side’s thrilling 3-2 victory over South Korea on Monday.

This week’s brace can be added to the ten goals and two assists he has provided in 21 appearances for Ajax this season according to Transfermarkt, perhaps suggesting that the attack-minded player could be ready for a move to one of Europe’s top leagues soon.

If Kudus manages to help Ghana to a knockout stage appearance at this tournament, then you can expect to see his asking price shoot up from the current Dutch champions, with Liverpool perhaps waiting on the young star’s transfer value before deciding to make a move either in January or next summer.
