Just 63 minutes into his third Premier League start on the bounce, the teenager, who was having another fine game against Leeds, suffered a dislocated ankle following a challenge with Pascal Struijk.

Whilst it initially looked like the Leeds defender had slid back and won the ball from Elliott, Mo Salah's worried reaction quickly alerted the Liverpool medical team to the severity of the injury.

After a lengthy delay of treatment, the teenager was stretched off and given a warm applause by the entirety of Elland Road, with Elliott responding to the ovation by clapping back.

Liverpool have since confirmed that the former Fulham man will now undergo surgery before a timescale on his absence will be revealed.

What has Norris said about Elliott?

Norris praised Elliott's impressive start to his first full campaign in the Reds' first-team and said he's gutted to see him suffer such a nasty injury.

He told GIVEMESPORT: "It's a massive blown. I'm gutted for him. He's been getting good game-time, he's been doing really well.

"He seems a good lad, good character. I read something about him already, where he gave someone next to him his boot, so that's just the type of character he is."

When is Elliott expected to return?

Speaking before Liverpool's Champions League group game with AC Milan at Anfield, Klopp was unable to give a timeframe on Elliott's injury, but it's more than likely he'll miss the remainder of the season.

It's such a huge disappointment for Elliott, who was really beginning to get his feet under the table and appeared to have already nailed down a starting place in Klopp's team ahead of Roberto Firmino.

Furthermore, had the 18-year-old's form continued any longer, it would have surely been a matter of time before he was on Gareth Southgate's radar, especially with the 2022 World Cup now just 14 months away.
