Liverpool news: Fresh bold claim emerges involving Mohamed Salah and Cristiano Ronaldo
The journalist believes the Reds attacker's reliability in front of goal has improved significantly since he first arrived at Anfield in 2017.
What's the latest news involving Mohamed Salah?
The Egyptian assassin seems to only be getting better and better at the moment.
Following on from his stunning solo goal versus Manchester City, Salah produced another sublime individual effort against Watford on Saturday.
The Liverpool forward picked up the ball inside the box, darted away from three defenders in one fell swoop, cut inside from near the byline onto his left foot and launched an unstoppable curler into the opposite side of the net.
That goal saw Salah maintain his position at joint-top of the Premier League's scoring charts alongside Leicester City's Jamie Vardy and also turned Liverpool's dominant lead over the relegation-threatened Hornets into an absolute romping.
But Gates has claimed few would've believed Salah could go onto such goalscoring acclaim when Liverpool first snapped him up from Roma.
What has Emmet Gates said about Mohamed Salah?
Speaking to GIVEMESPORT, Gates has suggested that Roma fans would've "laughed" at the idea of Salah going on to score 135 goals in his first 213 appearances for Liverpool.
The journalist insisted Salah was widely perceived as a wasteful forward in Italy, before comparing his "transformation" under Jurgen Klopp to Cristiano Ronaldo's at Real Madrid.
Ronaldo had already won a Ballon d'Or before moving to the Bernabeu but modified his game from being a world-class winger to becoming the most lethal goalscorer in world football, ending his Real Madrid career with more goals than appearances.
"When Salah left Roma to join Liverpool, if you'd have told many Roma fans in 2017 in four years Salah would score this amount of goals, they would've laughed at you. Because he missed a lot of chances - in Italy, Salah was one of those strikers at that point that would score one for every four or five chances.
"He wasn't the ruthless machine that he then transformed into under Jurgen Klopp. So to see his development over the last four years and how he's become this efficient machine, like Cristiano Ronaldo later became at Real Madrid."

Who will score more goals this season?
Of course, we don't have a crystal ball but as things stand currently, Salah is on track to comfortably outscore Ronaldo, with the Manchester United star netting just under half as many times in the Premier League.
That being said, it would be foolish to overlook a legendary footballer who scored 29 goals in Serie A last season.
It's been a disappointing start to the new campaign for United, who lost 4-2 to Leicester City on Saturday. But once their form picks up, it wouldn't be surprising to see Ronaldo's strike-rate quickly increase.
