Paris Saint-Germain are expected to reinforce their backline this summer as they continue investing in younger talent. Recent signings like Lucas Beraldo and Willian Pacho have added depth, and another defender could be on the way.

With Milan Škriniar likely to leave and Marquinhos and Lucas Hernandez getting older, PSG may explore ways to refresh their defense. Additionally, Presnel Kimpembe’s future remains uncertain, adding to their need for reinforcements.

That said, the club isn’t solely targeting players in their early 20s. Instead, reports suggest they’re eyeing someone entering their prime—ready to step in as a key figure under Luis Enrique.

German outlet Bild recently reported that Paris Saint-Germain are targeting Nico Schlotterbeck, the 25-year-old Borussia Dortmund defender who’s under contract until 2027. But the Ligue 1 club now look set to miss out.

What’s the latest on Nico Schlotterbeck?

According to Football Insider, Schlotterbeck—also on Newcastle United’s radar—is expected to stay at Dortmund. The German international is reportedly in “advanced talks” over a new contract, with the club eager to lock him down long-term.

Schlotterbeck’s injury will probably keep him out until October. As a result, a summer move is unlikely.

Liverpool were also linked to the defender, with The Daily Mail reporting he was viewed as a possible long-term successor to Virgil van Dijk. But for now, it seems all three clubs will have to explore other defensive options.
