Liverpool are one of the clubs showing keen interest in signing Napoli attacker Khvicha Kvaratskhelia in the January transfer window.
According to David Ornstein of The Athletic, the Reds could consider a move for the 23-year-old winger if he decides to leave the club this month.
Since arriving from Rubin Kazan in the summer of 2022, Kvaratskhelia has become a key player for Napoli and Liverpool are attentive to his situation.
The Reds are well-stocked in their attacking areas. Luis Diaz, Cody Gakpo, Diogo Jota and Darwin Nunez can all operate from the left-hand side (Kvaratskhelia’s most effective position), and one of them will have to leave to make room for the Georgia international.
Ornstein says Kvaratskhelia is someone Liverpool admire but they are not actively chasing him at the moment. However, the Reds are ready to move for him if the market opportunity arises.
According to Fabrizio Romano, Paris Saint-Germain are in direct negotiation with Napoli to sign Kvaratskhelia, who is valued at around £67 million. PSG are willing to increase his salary four times what he earns at Napoli, and he might find the offer hard to refuse.
Liverpool need to act quickly if they are serious about landing him in January. They will have to come up with a lucrative offer to beat PSG (and Chelsea) in the race.
The dazzling winger has scored 30 goals and added 29 assists in 107 appearances for the club and has a contract at Napoli until 2027.
Liverpool have signed Kvaratskhelia’s international team-mate Giorgi Mamardashvili, who will move to Anfield next summer.
The Reds have money to spend, but only if the price is reasonable. Arne Slot is happy with the squad he has at his disposal, but the Reds boss has also hinted that the club will look to add players if the right opportunity comes their way.
Liverpool previously signed Virgil van Dijk, Gakpo and Diaz in the winter transfer window, and there’s no reason why they can’t make another marquee signing. At the moment, PSG are leading the race, and the Reds have not made any formal approach.
