Former Red Dejan Lovren has opened up on departing Liverpool Football Club.

Liverpool sold Lovren to Zenit Saint Petersburg for a transfer fee of €12 million back in the summer of 2020.

Lovren has stated that he does not regret leaving Liverpool. In fact, Lovren believes that Liverpool miss him.

Lovren added that he was upset about hardly playing for Liverpool last season. The centre-back only made 10 appearances in the 2019-20 Premier League season.

The Crotia international performed reasonably well in the 10 matches that he played in. Lovren averaged a WhoScored player rating of 7.09 in the aforementioned matches.

“No, I do not regret it. My decision in the summer was firm – to leave Liverpool, and I do not look back,” Lovren told Sport-Express, as quoted by Goal.

“I got upset last season when I didn’t play, but now everything is different. I think Liverpool miss me more than I miss them. Jurgen Klopp knows this, because we talk. He wrote to me recently: ‘We miss you’.”

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

To be fair, Liverpool could actually use Lovren right now. Due to injuries, Reds boss Jurgen Klopp has been forced to play midfielders (Jordan Henderson and Fabinho) in the heart of Liverpool’s defence.

But, the reality is, Lovren is no longer at the club. Lovren has made 23 appearances for Zenit Saint Petersburg this season, which highlights that he is getting minutes on the football pitch, and that is what he wanted.

Lovren was a fine servant for the Reds. The Croatia international made 185 appearances for Liverpool between 2014-2020.

The one thing that we loved about Lovren during his time as a Red was his passion. We remember after Liverpool lost the 2018 Champions League final 3-1 to Real Madrid, Lovren was in tears.

That just highlights how much he cared about the club. We have nothing bad to say about the former Red.
