Liverpool midfielder Stefan Bajcetic is set to join La Liga club Las Palmas on loan in the January transfer window.
The 20-year-old midfielder joined Red Bull Salzburg on loan during the summer transfer window, but the move hasn’t worked out well for him as Liverpool had expected.
The Reds have terminated the loan deal with Salzburg, and they are sending him on loan to Las Palmas for the rest of the season.
At the start of this month, Bajcetic was linked with a move to Spanish club Real Betis, but the deal didn’t materialise.
According to Fabrizio Romano, the highly-rated midfielder has agreed to join Las Palmas on loan with “immediate effect”.
The transfer expert wrote: “Stefan Bajcetic leaves RB Salzburg as loan has been broken and joins Las Palmas on new loan deal from Liverpool. Bajcetic has already agreed to join Las Palmas with immediate effect.”
He further wrote in a separate tweet that the deal doesn’t have any buy-back clause. It means the player will return to Liverpool in the summer.
Liverpool wanted the young midfielder to play regularly under former Reds assistant coach Pepijn Lijnders. However, the Reds decided to end the loan deal after Lijnders’ sacking last month.
The central midfielder made six starts and six more appearances came from the bench in the Austrian Bundesliga. He also made one start in the Champions League this season.
Bajcetic has progressed through the academy ranks at Liverpool after joining from Celta Vigo. In 2022-23, he made 20 senior appearances for the Reds, and Jurgen Klopp hailed him as an “exceptional” talent.
Arne Slot cannot guarantee him regular game time at the moment, and another loan spell looks ideal for him.
Ideally, he should have moved to a Premier League club on loan. Bajcetic will have to keep working hard and make the best use of the opportunity given to him.
