In a recent interview (via Wales Online), Liverpool midfielder Harry Wilson revealed that he is keeping his options open for now and will only make a decision on his future at Anfield after the conclusion of the UEFA European Championships. Wilson said,

“When you come away with Wales, I only ever focus on the next game because I feel if you are to think about anything else you’d be silly, you can get distracted so my focus here is fully on Wales and making sure we get as far in this competition as we can.

“Once the competition has finished that’s when I’ll think about what’s happening at club level.”

Wilson’s Encouraging Loan Spell At The Cardiff City Stadium

The Welsh winger had a fruitful loan spell with Cardiff City last season when he put in a series of eye-catching displays to help them secure a strong eight-placed finish in the EFL Championship recently. Wilson banged in seven goals and grabbed 12 assists in 39 appearances for the Welsh outfit in the previous campaign on all fronts.

The 24-year-old proved his worth as a valuable contributor by averaging 0.8 tackles, 0.8 interceptions, 2.0 shots, 1.7 key passes and 1.5 crosses per game in the English second division. However, he was a bit sloppy with his ball distribution after making 73% of his attempted passes in league football (stats via whoscored).

Should Klopp Retain Wilson’s Services Beyond This Summer?

Wilson has outstanding ball control and can keep possession moving with ease and grace in the opposition half. He has shown that he can score or assist goals regularly in the EFL Championship but it remains to be seen whether he can maintain his high standards in the Premier League next season if Jurgen Klopp decides to keep him at Anfield for the time being.

At 24, Wilson is about to enter the best years of his playing career, so Klopp should consider checking him out in pre-season before making a decision on his future at Liverpool. The Wales international’s current contract at Anfield is set to expire in the summer of 2023. Hence, the Reds would be wise to keep hold of him for another season before making up their minds about whether to sell him at the end of next season.

Maybe another loan move for Wilson could be on the cards as Klopp currently has no room in his attacking department to accommodate the Welsh wing wizard in the upcoming Premier League campaign. With all things considered, it makes sense for Liverpool to keep hold of Wilson services’ beyond this summer as he still has the potential to become a future starter for the Merseyside club.
