Liverpool forward Sadio Mane has been named in the WhoScored Team of the Week for the Premier League following his performance against Sheffield United on Saturday.
Mane is the only Liverpool player in the XI, which also includes four Leeds players, two from Southampton, two from Crystal Palace and one apiece from Manchester City and Fulham.
Jurgen Klopp’s side came from behind to seal the three points against Chris Wilder’s team at the weekend. Sander Berge gave United the lead from the spot, before goals from Roberto Firmino and Diogo Jota helped Liverpool win the match.
ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT
Mane racked up some impressive statistics in the win, which could be why he has made the starting XI of the Team of the Week. He won four aerial duels, completed two dribbles, got off three shots and created two goalscoring chances – one of which ended with Jota heading in the winner.
The forward created the winning goal by standing up to his man on the left wing and then shifting the ball out of his feet to cross to the far post where Jota was waiting to nod it into the top corner of Aaron Ramsdale’s net. So, given his contribution to the winning goal and his other stats from the game, this does appear to be a fair call by WhoScored and a worthy accolade for the Senegal international.
Hopefully, Mane will be named in plenty more of these XI’s throughout the season and end the campaign with a healthy number of goals and assists. The forward could be key again for Liverpool this term with the impact he can have in the final third, deciding games with his end product.
