And moments later it was 2-0 thanks to a stunning volley from Villa debutant Bertrand Traoré.

Second half substitute Ollie Watkins then made sure of Villa’s place in the fourth round when he made it 3-0 with his first touch in the 73rd minute.

Dean Smith’s side will host Stoke City in the fourth round.

Liverpool took an early lead at Sincil Bank thanks to a stunning 25-yard free-kick from Xherdan Shaqiri.

And 10 minutes later it was 2-0 when Takumi Minamino curled a beautiful effort into the same top corner as Shaqiri’s earlier goal.

Curtis Jones then got in on the act to put the Premier League champions 3-0 up with another great goal.

And Jones got his second of the game via the aid of a slight deflection to make it 4-0 a few minutes later.

No sooner had the second half begun than the Reds were 5-0 up and it was another stunning goal from Minamino.

Lincoln then pulled one back through Tayo Edun but it was soon 6-1 to Liverpool when Marko Grujic found the bottom corner with a drilled effort.

And then to add to the craziness, Lewis Montsma pulled another one back for the Imps to make it 6-2.

Divock Origi then scored the ninth goal of the game in the 89th minute.

Liverpool will face Arsenal at Anfield in the fourth round.

Manchester City 2-1 Bournemouth

Scorers:  Delap 18′, Foden 75′; Surridge 22′

Ferran Torres and Riyad Mahrez both forced decent saves from Bournemouth goalkeeper Mark Travers in the early stages.

But it was a brilliant finish from 17-year-old debutant Liam Delap (son of former Stoke City throw-in machine Rory) which broke the deadlock at the Etihad.

However, the Cherries were soon level when Sam Surridge found the bottom corner of Zack Steffen’s net with a lovely finish.

But City went 2-1 up 15 minutes time when Mahrez’s strike came back off the post and Phil Foden was on hand to finish the rebound.

City will face Burnley at Turf Moor in the fourth round.
