Liverpool have “made contact” with Lyon regarding a potential transfer move for Moussa Dembele, according to L’Equipe, via the Daily Record.
Arsenal have also contacted the Ligue 1 side, who had previously ruled out any possibility of the striker being sold earlier this month, with Manchester United considered to be head of the queue for his signature.
However, the Reds have now reportedly approached Lyon about a deal for the 22-year-old, whose form has attracted attention from a host of clubs around Europe.
Juninho, Lyon’s sporting director, was adamant that the forward wouldn’t leave the club this summer when asked about it recently.
“There will be only be three departures from the club this summer and they won’t be either Moussa Dembele or Memphis Depay,” he insisted.
“Moussa’s form has been a nice surprise for us this season. He’s very good technically and we want to build on that.
“We want to keep him and we will.”
Dembele, however, remains keen to keep his options open, saying in April: “I signed for five years with Lyon and I’m happy there but we’ll see what happens. I’m happy to stay with Lyon next season but we’ll see.”
His former club Celtic will monitor his situation closely as they stand to make a windfall from any sale, having included a 10 per cent sell-on clause in his contract when he moved to France for £19.8million last year.
