The Reds have already signed Alexis Mac Allister and Dominik Szoboszlai so far this summer to cover the losses of Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner.

However, the unexpected departures of Jordan Henderson and Fabinho to Saudi Arabia means that Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp could have to buy at least one or two more players.

Southampton’s Romeo Lavia had seemed like their top midfield target after making multiple bids for the Belgium international but the Reds changed focus today when they bid £110m for Brighton’s Caicedo in the early hours of this morning.

That bid has been accepted by the Seagulls but Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Caicedo has made it clear to Liverpool that he will only entertain a move to Chelsea this summer.

And now Liverpool could be moving on with Spanish publication Nacional claiming that the Reds ‘are interested’ in bringing Real Madrid’s Valverde to Anfield this summer.

The newspaper are calling Valverde the ‘great victim of the arrival of [Kylian] Mbappe’ with any attempt to lure the Paris Saint-Germain attacker to the Bernabeu this summer likely to strike a ‘severe blow to the coffers’.

That means Real Madrid will likely have to offload Valverde or team-mate Aurelien Tchouameni, although Real are yet to make a bid for Mbappe this summer.

Liverpool ‘have presented an offer of €60m’ for Valverde as they ‘try to reach an agreement with Real Madrid’ for the Uruguay international.

It is understood that Liverpool ‘were willing to pay €100m’ not so long ago for Valverde but his performances last season mean the Reds are only willing to offer €40m less.

and Tchouameni will be added to the Mbappe ‘sacrifice list’ if Valverde ends up staying.

Sky Sports reporter Kaveh Solhekol has brought the latest on Mbappe’s situation at PSG with the World Cup winner sticking to his guns so far this summer, as he looks for a free transfer to Real Madrid in a year.

Solhekol wrote: “Kylian Mbappe has told Paris Saint-Germain he will not leave the club under any circumstances this summer.

“PSG’s position, therefore, has not changed – he will be frozen out and not play until his contract runs out next season.

“Sky Sports News understands one point of contention is that Mbappe feels let down by the club’s transfer policy.

“When he signed a new contract last summer, he was led to believe that Robert Lewandowski and Bernardo Silva would be joining him in Paris.”
