Liverpool look to prise ‘unhappy’ £38million winger from Euro giant, as Newcastle give chase | OneFootball

Liverpool are reportedly ‘set to battle it out’ with Bayern Munich and Newcastle United for Juventus winger Federico Chiesa, who’s apparently ‘unhappy’ at the club.

The Reds’ transfer window has started on the right track. It was the worst kept secret in the Premier League that they’d end up snaring Alexis Mac Allister.

The bonus for Jurgen Klopp’s side was that they managed to do so for £35million, seemingly unchallenged from any other sides. They’ll be looking to put more pieces together to make a more competitive squad for next season.

Juventus winger Chiesa seems to be the next target for the Anfield outfit. Recently, it was reported they were interested in the winger, with that report suggesting a £38million outlay would do the trick.

The Daily Mail have since cited a report from Italian outlet Il Corriere dello Sport along the same lines. The report states Juve have indeed set an asking price of £38million for their winger.

They also suggest that Chiesa is ‘unhappy’ as he no longer feels ‘centre of the project’ at his current side. Indeed, injuries have meant he’s played just 35 games in the league in the past two seasons, which clearly can’t be helped.

Amid Chiesa’s unhappiness, Liverpool are said to be ‘interested in making a move’ However, they’ll not be alone in the pursuit of the forward.

Bayern and Newcastle are both keen on him, too. The report states the three sides are set to ‘battle it out’ for him, with Juve likely ‘hoping to initiate a bidding war’ between the parties.

Indeed, their financial plight has been well reported of late. Financial irregularities and false accounting was the source of a ban that saw them finish seventh in Serie A this season.

There are obviously reasons for that, and they’re not likely to go away in a hurry. As such, it seems the Old Lady will be forced to get saleable assets off the books as fast as they can and Chiesa could certainly be that.

While injuries have hindered his progress over the past few seasons, he’s clearly a very good player when fit.

His best season in Serie A saw him score 10 times and provide nine assists. The winger followed that up with eight goals and eight assists the very next season.

As such, it’s not difficult to see why big sides are keen. However, it’s unlikely any interested side will pay above the odds for an injury-prone player, no matter how good.
