With Liverpool having won ten of their 15 league games so far this season, Jurgen Klopp’s side are firmly in the title race alongside Chelsea and Manchester City.

According to El Nacional (via Liverpool Echo 13.01), Klopp would like to bring Real Madrid midfielder Toni Kroos to Anfield next summer after apparently making a promise to the German that he would lodge a bid for him.

Since joining Real from Bayern Munich back in the 2014 summer transfer window, the 31-year-old has made a total of 333 appearances across all competitions, scoring 24 goals, providing 82 assists and winning a plethora of trophies along the way.

Kroos, who has previously been described by Klopp as “one of the biggest talents in German football for a long, long, long time,” has made 13 appearances across La Liga and the Champions League so far this season, scoring two goals and providing two assists in the process.

As well as his useful goals and assists this season, Kroos’ overall performances in La Liga have earned him an overall rating of 7.2/10, making him the third-highest rated Real player to have started more than four league games according to WhoScored, which would put him as Liverpool’s highest-rated central-midfield player in the Premier League this season.

Liverpool are apparently willing to spend €50m (£43m) to sign Kroos, and the German would certainly offer a lot of experience at playing at the top level of European and international football as well as some extra goals and assists from midfield, qualities that would make him an excellent addition.

Looking ahead to the next summer window, if the Reds don’t end up winning the league this season, Liverpool’s current sporting director Michael Edwards could deliver a final transfer masterstroke before he leaves his position in the summer by delivering Klopp his wish of having Kroos in his squad.

With the midfielder’s current contract at Real set to expire in the summer of 2023, it will be intriguing to see what sort of financial deal could be made that would seal his signature for the Reds.
