Liverpool are being linked with a move for Rennes midfielder Eduardo Camavinga this summer as the club consider replacements for Georginio Wijnaldum.

Wijnaldum looks set to leave Liverpool this summer on a free transfer after failing to agree a new contract with the Reds, the midfielder having been strongly linked with a move to Barcelona and reunion with former Netherlands coach Ronald Koeman.

The Dutch international has been a key figure for Jurgen Klopp since arriving from Newcastle in a £25m deal five years ago and his departure will leave a significant void amongst the club’s midfield options.

According to the Express, one player under consideration as a potential replacement is Camavinga, who has emerged as one of the most exciting young talents in world football at Rennes.

The teenager made his debut for the club as a 16-year-old and has since emerged as a prominent figure for the Ligue 1 side, breaking into the senior France side and becoming Les Blues’ youngest goalscorer in over a century.

Camavinga is understood to have told Rennes he will not sign a new deal and Europe’s elite are now monitoring his situation, with Real Madrid, Manchester United and Paris Saint-Germain amongst the clubs previously linked with his signature.

The 18-year-old’s current contract will expire in 2022, leaving Rennes with a decision to make on their most valuable asset ahead of the summer transfer window.

Camavinga is comfortable in a variety of midfield roles and would add new impetus to Klopp’s side, with uncertainty also remaining over the futures of Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, whilst James Milner will turn 36 next season.
